The members of the Eritrean community have been calling repeatedly for the chair person of the Eritrean Canadian Association of Ontario (ECAO), Neguse Tewolde, to open his books for internal and external auditing. About one million dollars have been mismanaged under his administration and those of his predecessors. Instead of listening to the people’s pleas, he is trying to cover up his faults by committing other faults. Now, he is lying openly. He said, “The audit was done by Mesfin Hagos,” which is totally false.

We have been expecting Tewolde to come to his senses and do the right thing to serve the people. Instead, he is making himself busy misleading the people, distorting the facts and trying to run away from his responsibilities. This is totally inappropriate and shows his lack of respect for the people.

Mesfin Hagos has indicated clearly that he hasn’t audited the financial reports of the ECAO. He simply reviewed the association’s financial statements and transactions based on the documentation provided by the association’s accountant and management. It was not his responsibility to go beyond this and audit the sources of these documents. He checked Abadi Hagos’s work to find out if he had prepared the documents based on accounting principles. But Hagos has never ever audited the resources of the association.

This is the truth. You can even refer again to the Mesfin Hagos’s letter. He just performed a financial review. Period.

The financial documents of the ECAO have never been audited by a certified accountant. About one million dollars of the association’s resources have disappeared under the management of Neguse Tewolde and his predecessors. Therefore, we again remind Tewolde to call for an auditing rather than trying to fool the public who know the solid truth.
